The Lewiston Public Library, in partnership with Niagara Falls High School, is seeking area veterans interested in sharing their stories.

Veterans of all ages, from all branches of service are welcome to participate.  If a veteran is deceased, interviews can also be done of family members.

The project involves local area high school students conducting interviews, recording responses, gathering digitized copies of photographs and documents and finally adding these stories and images to a newly created blog maintained by the Lewiston Public Library:  Niagara’s War Stories:  interviews with veterans from the Niagara area.

These interviews will be conducted at the Lewiston Public Library, Niagara Falls High School or, if requested, at places more convenient for the veterans.

There will be a special training session for students interested in interviewing veterans on Saturday, October 11th, at 1:00.

Lewiston Writers’ Group Presents Free Workshop
Building Blocks for Marketing and Promotion for Writers
Presented by Barbara Early

Date:        Monday, August 11, 2014
Location:    Lewiston Public Library, 305 S. Eighth Street, Lewiston, NY
Time:        5:00 pm

More publishing options are available to writers than ever before, but once a book is out there, how will people find out about it? Even authors published through traditional and small presses are called upon to do more of their own marketing. This workshop will focus on building a following, building on your strengths, building a writing career, and will provide concrete and practical steps an author can take (even prior to that first book) to improve visibility and sales without breaking the bank.

Barbara Early, who writes as Beverly Allen, grew up buried in the snowy suburbs of Buffalo, NY, where she developed a love for all things sedentary: reading, writing, classic movies, and Scrabble. She holds a degree in engineering, but her creative streak caused her to run away screaming from the pocket-protector set. When not reading or writing, she enjoys cooking, crafts, home-improvement projects, and spending time with her husband, daughter, and four naughty, but adorable cats.  She cooks up cozy mysteries with a healthy dose of comedy and sometimes a splash of romance. Her debut novel, Bloom and Doom, the first book in the Bridal Bouquet Shop Mystery series, released from Berkley Prime Crime in April and was a national bestseller. The second in the series, For Whom the Bluebell Tolls, is scheduled for release in January, 2015.
