We the People "Created Equal" Bookshelf People 2008

We would like to invite you to participate this summer in reading the books we received from the National Endowment for the Humanities through ALA. You can read them yourself or read them to or with a young person.

Everyone who completes the 3 - 4 books on the theme of  Created Equal in their age appropriate category will receive a Certificate of Accomplishment at our Summer Reading Wrap Up on August 4, 2008.

Mom’s Book Chat

 Join us for a new book discussion group at the Lewiston Public Library. Our next meeting will be Wednesday 5/21 @ 7:00. We will discuss Jennifer Weiner's Little Earthquakes .

Drawing upon her experiences as a scriptwriter and novelist, local author Norah Perez will offer help and guidance to those interested in various aspects of writing.

The Enlightened Mind

 Presented by Wei Bo, a Buddhist teacher and the self-proclaimed "Zen Master of Lewiston".

Participants will be examining and exploring the ancient path to enlightenment through meditative practices and procedures used for 2,500 years.

Used Book Sale

The Friends of the Lewiston Public Library host an
Annual Used Book Sale at the Red Brick School House.
2nd week of August 2008

Items for sale include fiction,
non-fiction, CDs, children's materials, movies
and audio books. 

The Friends of the Lewiston Public Library also maintain a Used Book Room all year long, it's open during library hours. 


Book Donations

Donations of books, audio books, CDs & movies are accepted during regular library hours at the Circulation Desk.  These items are evaluated and on occasion added into the Library's collection.  Items not added to the collection are sold by the Friends of the Library to generate funds to purchase new materials.  We cannot accept encyclopedias, textbooks, moldy/smoky or strong smelling items.

Please call ahead of time if you have a large donation.


Tax Help

Tax Help is provided to taxpayers with low- and
middle-income, with special attention
to those age 60 and older.*

This service is available from early-February to
mid-April in the Library Community Room. Make sure to bring all tax documents and supporting materials.

12:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Appointments available for Tuesdays only.

Tutoring

After school homework help/tutoring is available in the Library on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Saturday afternoons.  This service is provided by the Town of Lewiston Recreation Department.  Contact Mark Dashineau at 754-8213 for more information.
