Dead Beats Society

Following Your Characters

The Lewiston Public Library proudly presents a series of creative writing workshops by Liz Thelen

Mrs. Thelen is a Senior Communications Specialist, CTG M.F.A., Creative Writing (Poetry), Purdue University, 1999 B.A., English, Purdue University, 1994.
 

Thursdays July 9, 16, 23 and 30 @6:30


Participants will write and revise one short story, using writing exercises to build compelling characters and follow where they lead. Participants will read and respond to each other's work. Using contemporary short stories as models, the course will also discuss the craft of writing and tips for fruitful revision.

 Each creative nonfiction workshop will build on the skills learned and the writing completed during the previous workshops.  Therefore, writers are encouraged to attend all sessions.

 The events are free and open to the public. Space is limited and registration is required @ 754-4720.

 This series is made possible with funds from the Arts Niagara Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts, administered by the Tonawandas’ Council on the Arts/Carnegie Art Center.

Book Lover’s Calendar Sale

 The Friends of the Library are selling copies of the 2009 Book Lover’s Page-a-Day Calendar.  

Filled with 365 days worth of good authors, good books and good reading, the calendar is available at the Library circulation desk. The cost is $5 per copy.

The Friends of the Lewiston Public Library host an
Annual Used Book Sale at the Red Brick Municipal Building - North 4th Street & Onondaga Street @ Gym


Friday, August 7th 5:00 - 8:00   Wine & Cheese Preview Night Members Only (new members are welcome to joint at the door) Entrance Fee: $5 for everyone to help support our library

Saturday, August 8th 9:00 - 6:00

                         Sunday, August 9th 9:00 - 4:00   Bag Sale Day - $5 a Bag      (we provide the bag)

Items for sale include fiction,
non-fiction, CDs, children's materials, movies
and audio books. 

The Friends of the Lewiston Public Library also maintain a Used Book Room all year long, it's open during library hours. 


Annual Friends/Brickyard Drive By BBQ/Bake Sale

Direct from the traveling smoke ovens of Lewiston’s Brickyard, the Friends will be holding its annual DriveBy BBQ and Bake Sale.

Sunday, September 20 11:30 - 3:30 @Red Brick School

   Before sitting down to watch T.O. and the Bills, why not drive by and pick up a dinner or two.


Book Donations

Donations of books, audio books, CDs & movies are accepted during regular library hours at the Circulation Desk.  These items are evaluated and on occasion added into the Library's collection.  Items not added to the collection are sold by the Friends of the Library to generate funds to purchase new materials.  We cannot accept encyclopedias, textbooks, moldy/smoky or strong smelling items.

Please call ahead of time if you have a large donation.
