About the Library

Library Policies

Your library card must be presented to check out materials, use computers, renew and request items. It is also required to access the www.nioga.org
resources from home.

Your Lewiston Public Library or NIOGA Library System card is recognized in any of the other 21 libraries in Niagara, Orleans, and Genesee counties.
Obtaining a Library Card

  • Bring driver's license or proof of address to Circulation Desk.
  • With parent/guardian permission, children five years old and able to sign their name are eligible for a library card.
  • Patrons under 18 must have parent/guardian permission by signature for computer use.
  • All Niagara, Orleans, and Genesee county residents are eligible for a library card. Note: Your library card is valid at all libraries in the NIOGA system.
  • Special circumstances (ie: those that work in Niagara County but live in another county-proof of employment required) may be accommodated. Ask at Circulation Desk.
  • Non-residents are eligible for borrowing privileges at a charge. Individual library cards are issued for a $40 fee and are valid for a one year period. Some restrictions may apply.
    • New York State driver's license with current street address. [Note: A license with a Post Office Box or a commercially available personal mailbox (for example a PMB available through Mail Boxes Etc.) is not acceptable, as it does not prove residence. Applicants are required to provide another form of ID verifying address.]
    • Valid picture identification card with name, current address and signature
    • Dwelling lease
    • Voter's registration card with current address
Borrower Responsibility

  • Borrowers are responsible for all materials checked out on their library card.
  • Do not loan your library card to anyone.
